Driving License in Bangalore

1. Learning License
This has been a big learning for me... [Passing a learning license test is definitely a TEDI KHEER, especially in bangalore]
Got the English version of the form from a nearby xerox shop in BDA complex, Indiranagar and filled with relevant details. The one issued in RTO office was in Kannada, hard for a non-kannadiga to fill in, luckily found english copy in a nearby xerox shop. Initially i felt learning license would not be a big deal so confidently got the documents verified after waiting in queue for 20 mins. During the 25 min queue time i met a guy who was appearing for his 3rd attempt for learning license. Not a good start to the driving test, i said but was quite confident of clearing it still, ekdam bindas maafik...

I used the 25 mins of standing in the queue to go though the paper material used by other students/ went through all the traffic signals/signs and felt good. Time for the test.
Saw the set of questions, was completely amazed and surprised [Poori waat...] ye kya questions hai?? kuch bhi practical nahi tha, kaafi saara theory tha. Somehow managed to complete the test. Result kya --- FAILED got 8/15, life mein pehli baar kisi ne kaha tum fail ho gaye ho, total disappointment... discussed the same with friends and we all bursted into big laughter....

2nd attempt - this time i was all set and ready, gave 2-3 online tests so that i can crack the test. Got into the line.. after 15 mins of waiting, i was told to give Oral test.. was surprised so sat for my turn for next 30 mins... You will see amazing set of people around - from young to old everyone ghoting all the symbols and reading the manual... I also joined the league... Made one friend whose turn of test was before me and he knew what questions are generally asked in Oral.. Got nice dose of questions from him... Realized that getting a license is not an easy task for sure... worked on the solutions.. Then came my turn for the Oral test... I cracked all the questions... felt releievd... Sheet said you are PASSED... Ho gayi balle balle i said, I DID IT...It was awesome. Jhoomte hue nikala main office ki aur... [Aaj ka din Safal :D]

My suggestions will be to prefer Oral test over Written test anytime as its quite easy and questions revolve more around traffic symbols which is an easy deal to crack.

Written Exam (15 mark exam, you need to secure min of 10 to pass)
1. Tick only answers which will save a life even though you may have to stop the car or go against the rules... Use no logic.. Road safety consideration will hit you a jackpot in the written exams..
2. If you are not sure of all the questions. Just get to know the Question bank/set no. of your fellow mate besides you and just tick his answers.[Make sure he has signed up some Driving Class] No one verifies what question set you took in.

Try out following questions if you think u can pass:
1) what is the width of L sign letter on learners car.
2) what is minimum percentage of alcohol when detected , driver can be punished
3) if cow is standing in the middle of road , what will you do ? -- a) pass from front, b) pass from behind c) wait till cow moves
4) Towing vehicles

Oral Questions
1. Which are the places where you should not horn
2. Which are the places where you should completely horn
3. What to do in case of you are driving over a mountain road having high steep...
4. How to show left/right/stop signal
5. Someone's met an accident, you are in car and witnessed it.. whats' you next course of action

It takes 2-3 hours to complete Learning License exercise.
Steps involved
1. Get the form, fill it up. Attach copy of address proof, Id proof [Keep originals also]
2. pay the fees for applying for a LL. Attach the receipts/( challan ) with your application. Remember to get a pin.
3. Get in to line which starts from 8:30 AM to get your documents verified, so you need to rush in [In general it takes 30 mins]
4. Queue for written/oral test

PS : please read details here before applying - http://rto.kar.nic.in/details-ll.htm
My suggestion for an outsider(non-kannadiga) is to try making an LL/DL in his/her home town as its more better/convenient there... You will end up spending more time that what you actually thought...
