Driving License Written Test in California (DMV)
I recently passed my written test in DMV (34 out of 36)... Yeeee :D
Sometimes its pretty hard to read through all the content in the DMV guide, if you ready it fully, i think you will pass sure shot but we are humans and want things faster. Hopefully my learning's will help you.
Below are some things that helped me a lot
1) Driving yourself with my friends who already had a License
- This will give you the practical knowledge and you will be in much better position to appreciate the driving laws and learn faster
2) Try to be on the road more often, look for signs, look how people drive take turns
3)Go through this blog- http://www.jaytomlin.com/NCDMV/2008/05/california.html very rich source of questions you can expect in DMV exam
- complete the first 3 test and then scan from last of the page to avoid repetitive questions ( from last i would suggest to only see max 10 posts) that should cover 25 questions from your 36 questions set
4) Attaching some more questions papers
5) Attaching the question paper i got during my written exam
6) Go through all the signs here once and on the next page: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/hdbk/ped_sig_traf_sgns.htm
7) go through some DMV pages listed below
Parking Rules: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/hdbk/parking.htm
RightOfWay rules: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/hdbk/right_of_way.htm
8) One last important thing: If you feel multiple answers are correct and are not sure remember the tick the option which is the safest from a human/life perspective
- if a question involves pedestrians - prefer pedestrian based answer
9) Remember the California Driving Law about driving as per the safety conditions on the road [ do not recall exactly :-) ]
10) With all the smartphones around there are many apps which you can
download, so that you can practice them when you free, I downloaded many
of them. Will try to add to the post but i would suggest installing
based on it being free and the ratings.
--Going for the written test--
1) Better to book a DMV appointment, otherwise the queues are quite long, will take more than 3 hours
2) Get you origin country's license with you, that way you will get temporary license and then you can buy a car and drive alone
3) Since i had an appointment booked, i was done in 1 hour (25 min's for the test) 10 mins for cross checking
4) Cross check your paper again, if you confused remember life safety is high preference over anything.
5)They will correct and give you papers there itself along with the temporary DL
6) Best luck with you exam.... Do not worry or get disheartened if you fail, you are assured next chance you will pass since you know the format pretty much
